San Diego Padres Pitcher Rich Hill to Give Himself a Chance to Join Baseball Immortality in 2024

San Diego Padres pitcher Rich Hill says that he wants to keep playing in 2024.

After being traded to the San Diego Padres at the trade deadline this week, veteran pitcher Rich Hill plans to give himself a chance to make history in 2024.

Hill confirmed this week that he still wants to pitch next season and if he does, he'll have a chance to join some serious baseball history.

Once he suits up for the Padres, Hill will have played for 13 teams, which is tied for the second-most teams in baseball history.

If he plays for a different team in 2024, he'll tie Edwin Jackson by having played for 14 different teams.

The 43-year-old Hill is 7-10 this season with a 4.76 ERA for Pittsburgh (and soon to be San Diego). He's been durable, tossing 119 innings. He's in his 19th year in the big leagues with those 13 teams teams: Red Sox, Dodgers, A's, Cubs, Twins, Mets, Rays, Angels, Guardians, Yankees and Orioles.

He's 89-69 overall with a 3.93 ERA in his career. His presence will help a Padres rotation that is currently dealing an injury to Michael Wacha, who was acquired this offseason.

San Diego is 54-55 and is gaining ground in the National League wild card race. They are 4.0 games back of the final spot, currently occupied by the Milwaukee Brewers and Miami Marlins.

The Padres will open up a massive series on Friday night the Los Angeles Dodgers.

First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET as Yu Darvish gets the ball for San Diego. He's 8-7 with a 4.53 ERA.
