San Diego Padres' Juan Soto Has Accomplished Something That No Player Has Before the Age of 25
San Diego Padres star Juan Soto is in the record books because of his plate discipline, but also because of the fear that he strikes in pitchers.
Per @StatMusemlb
Juan Soto has 103 walks this season, his 4th 100-walk season.
No player has more 100-walk seasons before turning 25 than Soto.
Because Soto is in his sixth year in the big leagues, it's hard to remember just how young he is. Having made his debut at the age of 19, Soto is still just 24 years old. He's already a three-time All-Star, a three-time Silver Slugger, a batting champion, a Home Run Derby champion and a World Series winner (2019).
Soto is also having a resurgent 2023 campaign in which he's hitting .265 with a .408 on-base percentage. He's got 24 home runs and 75 RBI.
For his career, he's a .283 hitter and is closing in on multiple milestones. He's just one home run away from 150 and one RBI away from 450.
While the Padres have disappointed this year and may not make the playoffs despite their major financial investments, Soto has not, hitting in the middle of the Friars order and delivering an OPS over .900.
San Diego is currently 58-63 and in fourth place in the National League West. They also trail the race for the final wild card spot in the NL by 4.5 games.
The Padres are starting a new series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night.
First pitch is set for 9:40 p.m. ET as Zac Gallen (ARI) pitches against Rich Hill (SD).
