The San Diego Padres are going for a series win on Sunday -- and Fernando Tatis Jr. is going for history.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Fernando Tatis Jr. is the 5th NL player over the last 10 seasons with a HR in back-to-back games in a single series at Yankee Stadium. (Kyle Schwarber, Pete Alonso, Maikel Franco, and Curtis Granderson)

No NL player has hit a HR in 3 straight since the stadium opened in 2009.

Sure, interleague play was more of a rarity before this season's balanced schedule, but that's still impressive. Yankee Stadium has been opened for nearly 15 years and if Tatis Jr. has the chance to be the first in its history to do something? That would be noteworthy.

It's also noteworthy how well Tatis Jr. is assimilating since coming back into the lineup. After being re-instated from a PED suspension in May, Tatis Jr. is hitting .254 with nine home runs. He's also driven in 18 runs and stolen four bases.

The 24-year-old is one of the brightest young stars in baseball. He led the majors with 42 homers in the 2021 season and also stole 25 bases that year.

For his career, he's a .288 hitter with 90 homers.

The Padres won the first game of the series on Friday, 5-1, before losing 3-2 on Saturday. The two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. ET.

The Yankees will immediately fly to Seattle for a three-game series while the Padres will be off on Monday.
