San Diego Padres Star Juan Soto Continues to Do Things That Few Players Have Ever Done
The San Diego Padres beat the Detroit Tigers on Friday night, 5-4, behind two home runs from Juan Soto.
Soto connected on a solo homer in the top of the first inning before hitting a two-run shot in the third inning. The home runs were his 18th and 19th shots of the year and also put him in a very exclusive list in baseball history.
Per ESPN Stats & Info on Twitter:
Juan Soto has his 14th career multi-HR game. The only other players in National League history with 14 multi-HR games before turning 25 years old are Eddie Mathews (19), Mel Ott (17), Bob Horner (17), Willie Mays (15) and Bryce Harper (15).
That is a list filled multiple Hall of Famers, and then Harper, who could eventually get there someday. It continues to be impressive what Soto has done in his career at such a young age.
Still just 24, he's a lifetime .284 hitter with 144 homers and 431 RBIs. He's also got a career .424 on-base percentage, is a three-time All-Star, a three-time Silver Slugger, a home run derby champion, a batting champion and a World Series champion.
This year, he's hitting .266 with a .423 on-base percentage. He's got 19 homers and 57 RBI.
After the win, the Padres are 47-51 on the season. They've won six of their last 10 games and are 9.5 games back in the National League West. They are 6.0 games back in the wild card race.
They will play the Tigers on Saturday at 6:10 p.m. ET.
