San Diego Padres Star Now Stands Beside Hall of Famers in the Record Books
The San Diego Padres lost to the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday afternoon by a score of 10-6.
It was the third straight loss for the Friars, who are 61-70 and 8.0 games back in the National League wild card picture.
For a team that got to the NLCS a year ago and came in with massive expectations, it's been a colossal failure this year. Per Fangraphs, the playoff odds for the Padres are down to 2.7 percent.
Though the weekend was a total loss for the team, it was not a loss for the Padres as individuals, as slugger Juan Soto joined a very exclusive list in baseball history on Saturday with a home run.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Juan Soto launched his 150th career home run on Saturday in his 747th career game.
Paired with his 616 walks, he's the 3rd-fastest to 150 HR & 600 BB in MLB history, trailing only:
- Ted Williams (683 games)
- Frank Thomas (715 games)
It's been a great bounceback year for Soto, who struggled after being traded to San Diego in 2022.
The 24-year-old is hitting .260 with 25 home runs and 78 RBI. He's got a .400 on-base percentage and has added six stolen bases.
In his career, he's already a three-time All-Star and a three-time Silver Slugger. He's won a batting title, a home run derby crown and a World Series (2019 - Nationals).
The Padres will travel to St. Louis on Monday to open a series with the Cardinals.
First pitch is set for 7:45 p.m. ET.
