The Seattle Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon by a score of 5-0.

In doing so, the Mariners moved to 20-19 and are over .500 for the first time since they were 1-0. They've now won this series and have won six straight games on the road.

Rookie pitcher Bryce Miller got the win after tossing seven shutout innings. He allowed just three hits, no runs and struck out three. Earlier today, we wrote about how Miller made team history in the performance.

Looking deeper, Miller went right past team history and went straight to overall baseball history.

From the @CodifyBaseball account:

First 3 Bryce Miller starts:

19 innings, 64 batters faced, 8 baserunners, 1 run

what the hell did i just type

no starter in MLB history has ever allowed only 8 total baserunners in their first 3 starts because of course they haven't

Miller has been a huge lifeline for a Mariners rotation that is without Robbie Ray for the season (Tommy John surgery) and got a series of uneven performances from Chris Flexen.

The Mariners are looking to make the playoffs for the second straight season and if they are going to, they'll have to continue to get good starting pitching. The team's offense is at the bottom of most major metrics.

After the win, the Mariners are now 3.5 back of the first-place Texas Rangers in the American League West. The West is jumbled, as the Mariners are in fourth place behind Texas, the Angels and the Houston Astros.
