Cal Raleigh Does Something That Only One Other Seattle Mariners Catcher Has Ever Done
The Seattle Mariners pounded the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night by a score of 9-2. The win continued a run of excellent play from the M's, who have won eight straight games and moved to a season-best 11 games over .500 at 63-52. They are also only 0.5 games out of the third and final wild card spot in the American League.
The Mariners used the long ball in the win, getting home runs from Julio Rodriguez, Ty France and Cal Raleigh.
For Raleigh, it was his second home run in as many games and his 20th of the season, putting him on a very short list in team history.
Per @MarinersPR
Cal Raleigh is the 2nd catcher in @Mariners history with back-to-back 20 home run seasons, joining Mike Zunino (25 HR/2017 & 20 HR/2018).
The 26-year-old backstop, nicknamed "Big Dumper" also hit 27 home runs a season ago. This year, he's got 51 RBI and a .227 batting average to go along with his power numbers.
As of right now, Zunino is out of baseball after being designated for assignment by the Cleveland Guardians earlier this season.
The Mariners will take on the Orioles again on Saturday night. It's a special night in Seattle as longtime ace Felix Hernandez will be inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame before the game.
First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET as Cole Irvin (BAL) pitches against young Mariners ace George Kirby. Kirby made the All-Star team this season, the first selection of his career.
