Seattle Mariners Tie Powerful Team Record in Wild Win Over Kansas City Royals on Tuesday
The Seattle Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night by a score of 10-8. It was a wild win in which the Mariners led 7-0, and then 8-5, but had to win in extra-innings after allowing Kansas City to come back multiple times.
The way the Mariners built that big lead was on the back of some powerful home run history, as the M's hit four home runs in the fourth inning off Royals starter Jordan Lyles.
Per @MarinersPR
Most home runs in an inning in @Mariners history:
4, TONIGHT at KC (4th inning)
4, 5/2/2002 at CWS (1st inning)
4, 9/21/96 vs. OAK (3rd inning)
The M's blasts came off the bats of Eugenio Suarez, Ty France, Teoscar Hernandez and Josh Rojas.
For Suarez, it was his 17th homer of the season. France hit his 10th while Hernandez hit his 18th and Rojas his first.
While the win wasn't pretty, it was crucial for the Mariners as it helped them keep pace in the American League wild card race. It kept the M's at 2.0 games back of the Toronto Blue Jays and one game ahead of the Boston Red Sox in the battle for the final spot.
The Mariners are now 64-55 and will take on the Royals again on Wednesday night. First pitch from Kauffman Stadium is set for 8:10 p.m. ET as Mariners ace Luis Castillo goes up against James McArthur.
Castillo was named an All-Star this season and is 8-7 with a 3.14 ERA.
