Seattle Mariners' Luis Castillo Enters Start vs. Yankees On Top of This List in Team History
The Seattle Mariners acquired Luis Castillo last year at the trade deadline to be an ace, and he's delivered just about everything they could have wanted.
Castillo pitched the Mariners to their first playoff win since 2001 when he beat the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of the wild card series last year and he's made history through his first 25 starts with the team.
Per Mariners PR on Twitter:
Luis Castillo's 175 strikeouts through his first 25 @Mariners starts are the most in franchise history.
Considering the Mariners have had Cy Young winners like Randy Johnson and Felix Hernandez, as well as All-Stars like Freddy Garcia and Michael Pineda, that's very prestigious company.
Castillo enters a start on Wednesday against the New York Yankees with a 4-5 record this season, albeit with a pristine 2.73 ERA. In those first 25 starts with the Mariners, he's 8-7 with a 2.93 ERA.
Lifetime, he's 52-60 in his career. He spent the first 5.5 years of his career with the Cincinnati Reds but was acquired at the deadline in 2022 for a prospect package headlined by Noelvi Marte and Edwin Arroyo.
The Mariners enter the game on Wednesday in desperate need of a win. They are 35-36 and in fourth place in the American League West. They also are 4.0 games in the AL Wild Card race.
The Mariners lost game one of the series on Tuesday by a score of 3-1.
First pitch in the Bronx is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
