The Seattle Mariners are red-hot right now.

The M's beat the White Sox on Tuesday night by a score of 6-3 to move to a season-high 16 games over .500 at 71-55.

They are 33-13 over their last 46 games and have won eight consecutive games for the second time just in the month of August.

With that second streak, they have joined some rare and unique history.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

the Mariners are the 1st team with multiple 8+ game winning streaks (unique streaks) within a calendar month since the Dodgers in July 2017

they’re the 1st team to do this with the month in question being *August or later* since: the Orioles in August 1980 h/t

As a result of the hot streak, the Mariners are in sole possession of the third and final wild card spot in the American League. It's an extremely tight race though that has the M's only up on the Toronto Blue Jays by 1.0 game.

Furthermore, the M's have gotten right back in the division race as well. They trail the Texas Rangers by just 1.0 game in the American League West.

AL Wild Card Standings:

1) Tampa Bay Rays, 76-51

2) Houston Astros, 72-55

3) Seattle Mariners, 71-55

4) Toronto Blue Jays, 70-56 (1.0 GB)

5) Boston Red Sox, 66-60 (5.0 GB)

American League West Standings:

1) Texas Rangers, 72-54

2) Houston Astros, 72-55 (0.5 GB)

3) Seattle Mariners, 71-55 (1.0 GB)

The Mariners will go for a sweep of the White Sox on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 2:10 p.m. ET.
