Seattle Mariners Comeback Win on Tuesday Marks First Time in 32 Years They've Won This Way

The Seattle Mariners, with their season seemingly on the line, had one of the more improbable wins in their history on Tuesday night.

The Seattle Mariners beat the Minnesota Twins 9-7 on Tuesday night in one of the more improbable victories in their history.

The M's trailed 4-0 after the first inning, 5-1 after the third, and 6-2 in the eighth before rallying for seven runs combined in the eighth and ninth innings.

The comeback was punctuated by a game-tying home run from Julio Rodriguez in the eighth and a two-run double from Eugenio Suarez in the ninth.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

The Mariners had lost 580 straight road games when trailing by 4+ runs in the 8th inning or later.

They had last won against the White Sox in 1991, the first year of the new Comiskey Park.

That streak ended tonight.

While the Mariners have been average or bad for most of that tenure, that's still a shocking stat. The M's have had Ken Griffey Jr., Alex Rodriguez, Edgar Martinez, Jay Buhner, Ichiro, Robinson Cano, Kyle Seager, Nelson Cruz and Julio Rodriguez in the last 32 years, so they haven't lacked the ability for quick-strike offense.

The win was massive for Seattle, who moved to 51-50 in the victory. At 4.5 games back in the wild card, the hopes of making the playoffs are fleeting, but they are still there. With the trade deadline coming up in the next week, we'll see if the front office believes in this team enough to invest in it.

The Mariners will take on the Twins on Wednesday afternoon to finish up the series. First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. ET as rookie Bryce Miller (6-3, 3.50 ERA) pitches against Twins ace Joe Ryan (9-6, 3.88).
