Shohei Ohtani of Los Angeles Angels Continues to Re-write Baseball Record Books
The Los Angeles Angels beat the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night by a score of 4-1.
The win was critical for the Angels, who kept pace in the American League playoff picture. The Halos chances of making the playoffs are slim, but they are still alive at 7.0 games back in the wild card race.
For the Giants, they are now 62-53. They fell into the second wild card spot in the National League with the loss. They are 1.0 game behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the top spot.
As is the case in most Angels wins, Shohei Ohtani was the story of the night. The two-way superstar went 0-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and two walks, but he also fired 6.0 innings on the mound, giving up no earned runs and striking out five.
He got the win, moving to 10-5 on the season with a 3.17 ERA. As he's done multiple times this year, Ohtani also made some baseball history in the performance.
Per the Sporting Tribune on social media:
Last season: Shohei Ohtani becomes the first player in MLB history to win 10 games and hit 30 homers in the same season. This season:
Shohei Ohtani becomes the first player in MLB history to win 10 games and hit 40 homers in the same season.
It's been an incredible year for Ohtani, who is likely to win his second American League MVP award. In addition to his 40 home runs, he's hitting .306 and has 83 RBI.
