In this story:

Philadelphia Phillies newcomer Michael Lorenzen threw a no-hitter on Wednesday night against the Washington Nationals.

The righty, acquired at the trade deadline, threw 124 pitches in the performance. He walked four and struck out five. He's now 7-7 on the year with a 3.23 ERA. He made the All-Star Game this year with the Detroit Tigers.

In addition to the great performance, there were several amazing and historic facts that came out after the game.

1) Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Before he was a no-hitter-throwing pitcher, Michael Lorenzen made 6 starts in centerfield in 2019 for the Reds.

The last player to throw a no-hitter after starting that many games as a non-pitcher was Bob Lemon, who threw a no-no in 1948 after starting 12 games in CF in 1946.

2) Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

before Michael Lorenzen, the last pitcher to throw a no-hitter in his 1st home game with a franchise was May 15, 1960 Don Cardwell, for the Cubs

he had been traded 2 days earlier by…the Phillies!

4 pitchers, and 4 pitchers only, have played in the majors after attending Fullerton Union High School in Fullerton CA, and now all 4 have thrown an MLB no-hitter.

This is a simply incredible baseball fact—most amazing ever.

These pitchers are Steve Busby, Walter Honson, Lorenzen and Mike Warren.

The Phillies won the game by a score of 7-0 and now hold the top wild card spot in the National League.
