St. Louis Cardinals' Brendan Donovan Does Something Not Done in More Than 100 Years in Baseball History
On Friday night, we wrote about how Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals was on the unfortunate side of history, putting up an unreal statline in a loss.
On Saturday, St. Louis Cardinals player Brendan Donovan was the complete opposite:
Per OptaSTATS on Twitter:
Tonight Brendan Donovan of the @Cardinals:
-scored multiple runs
-scored all of his team's runs
-had all of his team's RBI
-had all of his team's XBH
-had all of his team's SB
No other MLB player has done all of that in a victory (since RBI became an official stat in 1920).
Donovan was officially 1-2 with two walks, two runs scored, an RBI and the home run. He also stole the base (his fourth of the year).
The Cardinals beat the Guardians, 2-1, despite being two-hit.
--Donovan scored one of the two runs on his own home run. He scored the other on a passed ball.
--Because the passed ball doesn't count as an RBI, the home run took care of that.
--They only had two hits, so the home run was the only extra-base hit.
A historic day indeed for the young player, who is now hitting .257 with five homers and 13 RBI this season. He's posted a .731 OPS in 152 at-bats.
He made his major league debut in 2022, playing in 126 games for St. Louis. Lifetime, he's a .274 hitter with 10 homers and 58 RBI.
The Cardinals and Guardians will play again on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. ET.
