St. Louis Cardinals Star Nolan Arenado is in a Hall of Fame Group in Baseball History
It's well-established that St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado is one of the best players in baseball, but it takes a stat like this to fully appreciate just how good he is - and how good he's been.
Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:
The @Cardinals' Nolan Arenado has 8 All-Star selections and 10 Gold Glove Awards before turning 33. Only five other players have done so in MLB history and they are all in the Hall of Fame:
Johnny Bench
Ken Griffey Jr.
Al Kaline
Brooks Robinson
Ivan Rodriguez
That's an inner circle of Hall of Famers that Arenado is in company with, proving that he's on a Hall of Fame track as well.
He's in his 11th year in the big leagues with the Rockies and Cardinals. Lifetime, he's a .288 hitter with 318 homers and 1,030 RBIs. This year, he's hitting .283 with 19 homers and 62 RBI.
The Cardinals are mired in a difficult season right now. They currently sit in last place in the National League Central at 38-52 and there's talk that the 32-year-old Arenado could be traded at the deadline.
While he would make a huge acquisition for a contending club, there's no need for the Cardinals to trade him. He's under contract through 2027.
St. Louis will open the second half of the season on Friday night when they host the Washington Nationals at Busch Stadium.
Miles Mikolas will get the ball for the Cardinals while Washington has not announced a starter as of this posting.
First pitch is 8:15 p.m. ET.
