Tampa Bay Rays Do Something They've Never Done Before in Team History

As the Tampa Bay Rays continue to try to chase an American League East title this year, they are doing things at the plate they've never done before. They have eight players with at least 15 home runs this season.

The Tampa Bay Rays beat the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 6-1. The Rays hit three home runs in the win, getting one from Josh Lowe, one from Brandon Lowe and one from Luke Raley.

The home run from Josh Lowe was his 15th of the year, which set a franchise record for Tampa Bay.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

The Rays have 8 players with 15+ HR, the most in a season in franchise history. It's also the most by any team this season.

It's been a powerful season for Tampa Bay, who has been one of the best teams in baseball all year despite being ravaged by injuries.

The players with 15 home runs or more are Isaac Paredes (23), Jose Siri (23), Randy Arozarena (18), Wander Franco (17), Raley (17), Yandy Diaz (16), Brandon Lowe (16) and Josh Lowe (15).

The Rays are currently 73-50 and trail the Baltimore Orioles by 2.0 games in the American League East race. They also currently own the top spot in the American League wild card picture. Tampa Bay is seeking its first-ever World Series title this season, but they'll have to overcome the season-ending injuries to Drew Rasmussen, Jeffrey Springs and Shane McClanahan, as well as the troubling situation with Franco, to do it.

The Rays are off on Thursday before beginning a weekend series with the Los Angeles Angels.

Game one of the series is on Friday night at 9:38 p.m. ET. The Rays have not announced a starting pitcher yet.
