The Tampa Bay Rays, the best team in baseball to this point, were on the wrong side of franchise history on Tuesday night, getting throttled by the Toronto Blue Jays, 20-1.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times has more on Twitter:

And that's your ballgame, #Rays lose 20-1 to #BlueJays. Yes, 20-1. Largest margin of defeat in franchise history, having lost 22-4 to #RedSox in a 2002 game.

The loss moved the Rays to 35-15 on the season while the win propelled the Jays to 26-23.

Toronto scored six runs in the fifth inning and brought in nine in the ninth inning to account for most of the scoring.

Taj Bradley suffered the loss for Tampa, going four innings and allowing four runs. Luke Raley, a position player, pitched 1.2 innings and gave up seven earned runs in the loss. Raley's ERA after the performance is over 30.

For Toronto, Jose Berrios got the win on the mound. He tossed seven innings and allowed just one run on five hits. He had five strikeouts. Adam Cimber returned from the injured list to close it out and tossed a scoreless inning.

Offensively, Toronto got contributions from everywhere. Nine different Jays players had a multi-hit game, including George Springer, who had four hits. Springer, Vlad Guerrero Jr., Matt Chapman and Danny Jansen each homered in the win.

The two teams will play again on Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. ET. After the loss, Tampa is just 2.5 up on the Orioles while Toronto is now 8.5 back of Tampa.
