Texas Rangers Blowout Houston Astros, Do Something Never Done in the Modern Era
The Texas Rangers blew out the Houston Astros 13-5 on Wednesday night in Houston.
The win was vital for Texas, as it kept them in first place in the American League West. They now lead the Astros by 2.0 games again.
The game was filled with plenty of drama and tension as multiple batters were hit, warnings were issued and the benches eventually cleared.
But as the smoke cleared, there was just the Rangers, breaking a record in Modern Era baseball history:
Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:
With games left to go in July, the Texas @Rangers have now won 17 games by at least eight runs this season -the most wins by that many runs entering August in the Modern Era - surpassing the 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers and 1936 New York Yankees who had 16 such wins.
The Rangers offense is extremely potent and has allowed them to blow several teams out this year, and they will have a chance to add to that total before the month ends.
Marcus Semien went 3-for-3 with a homer in the win, while Adolis Garcia hit his 25th homer - a grand slam - to fuel the victory.
The Rangers will kick off a new series on Friday when they visit the San Diego Padres.
First pitch is set for 9:40 p.m. ET as Dane Dunning (TEX) pitches against Joe Musgrove (SD).
Dunning is 8-3 with a 3.18 ERA while Musgrove is 9-3 with a 3.25.
The Rangers are 60-43 on the year while San Diego is 49-54.
