Texas Rangers' Corey Seager Joins Legends and Hall of Famers in Playoff History
The Texas Rangers beat the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night 7-1 to advance to the American League Championship Series.
With the 3-0 series sweep, the Rangers have advanced to their first ALCS since 2011. They are seeking their first-ever World Series title and will await the winner of the Astros-Twins series in that ALCS.
Texas got dominant starting pitcher from Nathan Eovaldi in the victory and also utilized the long ball, getting home runs from Corey Seager, Adolis Garcia and Nathaniel Lowe.
Seager went 1-for-2 in the win with the homer and two walks. He's now hitting .429 in five playoff games this postseason. His performance has put him in a small group with some of the best players in baseball history.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Corey Seager has reached base safely 3+ times in 5 consecutive games.
That ties the longest streak in a single postseason in MLB history. He joins David Ortiz in 2013, Barry Bonds in 2002 & Edgar Martinez in 1995.
Given that Ortiz and Martinez are in the Hall of Fame and that Bonds is the all-time home run king, that's elite company for Seager.
The 29-year-old shortstop is likely to get serious consideration for the American League MVP award this year after hitting .327 with 33 homers and 96 RBI. This is his second year in Texas after spending the previous seven in Los Angeles with the Dodgers.
He helped the Dodgers win the 2020 World Series and is a lifetime .247 hitter in the postseason.
The ALCS will open up on Sunday.
