Texas Rangers Rookie Makes Team History With RBI in Game 1 of Wild Card Series
Texas Rangers infielder Josh Jung joined a small list in team history on Tuesday when he knocked in a run in Game 1 of the wild card series with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
Josh Jung is the 4th rookie in Rangers history with at least 1 postseason RBI, joining:
2010 Mitch Moreland: 7
2015 Delino DeShields: 2
2015 Hanser Alberto: 2
Hitting against Tyler Glasnow in the second inning, Jung hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
The playoff performance thus far is just an extension of the great regular season for the young third baseman.
The 25-year-old Texas native made the All-Star Game in his first full season in the big leagues and finished the year hitting .266 with 23 home runs and 70 RBI.
He did spend some time on the injured list, playing in only 122 games, but he was incredibly impactful when he did play. He helps make up one of the most feared lineups in all of baseball, pairing with Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Adolis Garcia and Jonah Heim.
Given that all of those players (and Jung) are under team control for the foreseeable future, the Rangers figure to be a problem for American League teams for years to come.
At the time of this posting, Jung's RBI has held up. The Rangers lead the Rays 1-0 in the top of the third inning. Glasnow is battling with Jordan Montgomery.
Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be played on Tuesday afternoon, also in Tampa Bay.
