Texas Rangers' Legend Moves Up Prestigious All-Time Strikeout List
The Texas Rangers finally snapped their eight-game losing streak on Saturday night by beating the Minnesota Twins 6-2.
The Rangers scored four runs in the ninth inning in the win and also utilized a brilliant pitching performance from legendary right-hander Max Scherzer.
The Rangers' marquee trade deadline acquisition went 7.0 innings on the mound, allowing just two runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out 10.
He got a no-decision but lowered his ERA to 3.71 for the year.
With the effort, Scherzer continues to climb up this historic list, per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
Most career 10+ strikeout games:
Nolan Ryan: 215
Randy Johnson: 212
Max Scherzer: 113
Roger Clemens: 110
That's one of the most exclusive pitching groups in baseball history and signifies just how dominant Scherzer has been over his career.
One of the best pitchers of the 2000s, Scherzer is 213-107 lifetime. He's an eight-time All-Star and a three-time Cy Young winner. He's got 3,354 career strikeouts and led the league in strikeouts for three consecutive seasons from 2016-2018.
He's in his 16th year in the big leagues with the Diamondbacks, Tigers, Nationals, Mets, Dodgers and Rangers.
The Rangers and Twins will meet again on Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis. First pitch is set for 2:10 p.m. ET as Jordan Montgomery (TEX) pitches against Bailey Ober (MIN).
Montgomery is 8-10 with a 3.12 ERA while Ober is 6-6 with a 3.41.
The Rangers enter play at 73-56 and tied for first place in the American League West.
