Texas Rangers Make Team History with Regards to All-Star Game
The Texas Rangers have been one of the best teams in baseball this season and that was reflected on Thursday when the All-Star Game starters were announced.
With a 49-32 record and a 5.0 game lead in the American League West in hand, the Rangers are sending four starters to the All-Star Game, marking the most starters the team has had in franchise history.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
4 starters will be the Rangers’ most in a single ASG, surpassing 2012 (3) – which was also the last time even a single Rangers player started the All-Star Game
Jonah Heim will start at catcher while Marcus Semien will start at second base, Corey Seager will start at shortstop and Josh Jung will start at third.
It's the first All-Star selection for Jung, Seager and Heim and the second for Semien.
The switch-hitting Heim is hitting .279 with 11 homers and 55 RBI this season. His 55 RBI are tied for seventh in all of baseball.
Semien is in his second year in Texas and his hitting .284 with 11 homers, 55 RBI and seven stolen bases. He's also posted a .345 on-base percentage.
Seager is hitting .345 with 10 homers and 48 RBI. He's got an OBP of .411 and has come back nicely from a hamstring injury earlier in the season.
The 25-year-old Jung has 16 homers and 48 RBI while hitting .274.
The Rangers will have a big weekend series with the Houston Astros beginning on Friday night. First pitch from Arlington is at 8:05 p.m. ET.
