Texas Rangers' Max Scherzer Joins Nolan Ryan in Franchise Record Books
The Texas Rangers beat the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night in Oakland as veteran Max Scherzer continues to make a strong first impression in Arlington.
As part of a 6-1 win, Scherzer tossed 7.0 innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits. He walked two and struck out six in moving to 11-4 on the year. In addition to the 11 wins, he's got a 3.88 ERA, and also joined Nolan Ryan in some franchise history.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
After last night's start, Max Scherzer has 15 strikeouts and a 2.77 ERA in two starts for the Rangers.
He's the 2nd pitcher in Rangers history with 15 Ks and an ERA below 3.00 in their first two appearances with the team.
The other was a 42-year-old Nolan Ryan in 1989.
Ryan is one of the most decorated and respected pitchers in baseball history, so to be mentioned with him is a huge accomplishment.
In 27 years in the majors, Ryan won 324 games. He's the game's all-time leader in strikeouts at 5,714. He also is an eight-time All-Star, a two-time ERA champion and a Hall of Famer. He led the league in strikeouts in 11 different seasons.
As for Scherzer, he's also trending toward a spot in the Hall of Fame. The 39-year-old has 212 career wins, is an eight-time All-Star and a three-time Cy Young winner.
The Rangers have won eight consecutive games and are now 68-46 on the season. They lead the American League West over the Houston Astros by 3.0 games.
