Texas Rangers Offense Helping Franchise Reach Rare Club in Baseball History
In a showdown of two of the best teams in the American League on Friday night, the Texas Rangers rolled the Baltimore Orioles, 12-2.
The Rangers offense scored eight runs in the fourth inning to fuel the victory. They got a grand slam for Corey Seager, and additional homers from Leody Taveras and Robbie Grossman in the lopsided win.
At 32-18, the Rangers lead the American League West by 3.0 games at the time of this posting, and the offense is helping the team reach a rarified air.
Sarah Langs of MLB.com tweeted the following:
highest run differential in 1st 50 games of season, since 1940:
2016 Cubs: +128
2023 Rangers: +122
1946 Red Sox: +121
The Rangers currently lead the league in runs scored, are tied for first in batting average, and rank fourth in hits, fourth in doubles, and seventh in homers.
Run differential is also a product of pitching and the Rangers invested a lot in making that pitching better. By signing Martin Perez and Jon Gray last year -- and Andrew Heaney, Nathan Eovaldi and Jacob deGrom this year -- the Rangers were hoping to build a team built for success.
They are currently sixth in baseball in ERA and have allowed the third-fewest hits in the league, proving the investment has been worthwhile.
