Texas Rangers' Shortstop Moves Up Record Books with Big Performance in Game 3 of World Series
The Texas Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night 3-1 in Game 3 of the World Series. With the victory, Texas is just two wins away from its first-ever World Series championship.
In the low-scoring affair, Rangers' shortstop Corey Seager provided the biggest punch, hitting a two-run home run in the third inning. It was his fifth home run of these playoffs in which he's now hitting .298.
The home run also helped the 29-year-old move up the record books in multiple ways.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
most HR as shortstop, postseason history:
Derek Jeter: 20
Corey Seager: 18
Carlos Correa: 18
Considering Jeter is one of the most winning players in baseball history, being linked with him is a huge deal for Seager. Lifetime in the playoffs, he's a .248 hitter with 18 homers and 46 RBI. He's gone to the playoffs in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021 with the Dodgers, and this year with Texas. He won the NLCS MVP award and the World Series MVP award in 2020 with the Dodgers, who beat the Rays that year in the World Series.
There's also this note from Langs:
at 114.5 mph, Corey Seager’s HR is the hardest-hit HR in the World Series under Statcast (2015)
his G1 HR is tied for 4th on that list
This playoff performance continues an incredible season for Seager, one in which he's going to get real consideration for the American League MVP. He hit .327 this year with 33 homers, 96 RBI and two stolen bases. He posted a 1.013 OPS in his second year with Texas, pairing with Marcus Semien to make one of the most feared 1-2 duos in baseball.
Game 4 of the World Series is set for Tuesday night at 8:03 p.m. ET.
