Texas Rangers' Max Scherzer Accomplishes Yet Another Amazing Feat in Baseball History
The Texas Rangers beat the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night 12-0, behind a balanced offensive attack and a history-making pitching performance from veteran Max Scherzer.
The Rangers had 13 hits in the win, while Scherzer tossed seven scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out 11. He's now 12-4 on the year with a 3.67 ERA.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Max Scherzer tonight recorded his 6th career game with 10+ strikeouts and 1 or 0 hits allowed.
That's tied for the 4th-most by any pitcher since the mound was set at its current distance in 1893.
Only Nolan Ryan (19), Randy Johnson (10), and Justin Verlander (8) have more.
That's baseball royalty right there, so it's just another amazing accomplishment for Scherzer in what will be a Hall of Fame career.
He's in his 16th year in the big leagues with the Diamondbacks, Tigers, Nationals, Dodgers, Mets and Rangers. He's won three-Cy Young awards and is an eight-time All-Star. He's led the league in wins four times and strikeouts three times.
He's 213-106 lifetime with a 3.14 ERA.
After the win, the Rangers are 71-48 on the season. They've won eight of their last 10 games and lead the Houston Astros by 3.5 games in the American League West. They trail the Baltimore Orioles by 3.0 games for the top overall seed in the looming playoffs.
The Rangers and Angels play again on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. ET as Lucas Giolito (LAA) pitches against Jordan Montgomery (TEX).
