The Chicago Cubs Are Doing Things That No Team Has Ever Done Before at the Plate

The Chicago Cubs rolled the Cincinnati Reds for the second straight game on Wednesday, continuing to do things that have never been seen in baseball history.

On Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 20-9. In that win, the Cubs accomplished some unique team history. We covered that here.

On Wednesday, the Cubs rolled the Reds again, this time by a score of 16-6. They accomplished some overall baseball history with that performance.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

With another big win last night, the Cubs became the 1st team in MLB history to have 10 extra-base hits and 5 HR in consecutive games.

They have more runs and more home runs than all of the AL Central combined to begin August.

In Wednesday's blowout, the Cubs got home runs from Christopher Morel, Dansby Swanson, two from Ian Happ and another from Seiya Suzuki. They also got two doubles from Jeimer Candelario, two from Mike Tauchman and one from Yan Gomes.

The offensive output has come at a hugely critical time for the Cubs as well. They are now 55-53 on the year and just 3.0 games behind the Reds in the National League Central. After being thought of as sellers at the trade deadline, the Cubs decided to buy, acquiring Candelario from the Nationals.

In addition to the battle for the division, Chicago is now just 2.5 games back of the final wild card spot in the National League.

They'll look to continue this roll on Thursday when they take on the Reds again at Wrigley Field.

First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. ET as Luke Weaver (CIN) is opposed by Jameson Taillon (CHC).
