The Colorado Rockies are on the Wrong Side of This Amazing Stat in Current Baseball History
The Colorado Rockies, one of the worst teams in baseball this season, are on the wrong side of current, multi-year baseball history.
Per Jesse Rogers of ESPN:
Follow up stat. No.1 on the list: The Rockies have gone 229 games without a win when trailing by multiple runs in the 9th inning or later. Seems improbable with their home park!
Rogers is right. Considering the Rockies play in the most hitter-friendly ballpark in the sport, and have had sluggers Trevor Story and Kris Bryant recently, you'd think they would have had a great ability to come back, but it hasn't happened.
It's been a lean last few years for the Rockies though. At 33-55 this season, they are in last place in the National League West. They've also finished last or second-to-last in the NL West each year since 2019, last making the playoffs in 2018.
The Rockies have only made the playoffs five times in the history of the franchise, which dates back to 1993. They lost to the Boston Red Sox in the World Series in 2007.
The Rockies are off on Thursday but will open up a new series on Friday against the San Francisco Giants.
The Giants are currently 47-40 but is coming off a losing series against the Seattle Mariners.
Neither team has announced a starting pitcher yet for game one of the series.
After that series, it's off to the All-Star break. After the break, the Rockies will play the New York Yankees in Colorado.
