Here at Fastball and FanNation, we are fans of quirky baseball history.

This one? It's not really quirky, it's really just incredible.

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt threw a complete game shutout on Friday night against the Atlanta Braves and in doing so, broke two incredible streaks in franchise history.

Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

Blue Jays streaks snapped by Chris Bassitt's shutout today:

- 889 consecutive games without a 9.0+ inning CG

- 1176 consecutive games without a 9.0+ inning CG shutout

Both of those were the longest in MLB history.

That means that Blue Jays franchise hadn't had a nine-inning, complete game in more than five years and hadn't had a nine-inning, complete game shutout in more than seven years.

That seems fairly unbelievable given that the Blue Jays have good pitchers like Marcus Stroman, Alek Manoah, Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman, Aaron Sanchez and Robbie Ray in those time periods.

It's even more unbelievable since the Blue Jays are the original organization of Roy Halladay, who was the complete game machine. Halladay threw 15 complete game shutouts in his tenure in Toronto and 49 total compete games there.

Bassitt was dominant on Friday. He allowed just two hits in the victory, which moved him to 5-2 on the season. He had two walks and eight strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 3.49 as well.

Bassitt signed a three-year, $63 million deal this offseason after spending last year with the New York Mets.

The Blue Jays and Braves will play again Saturday at 3:07 p.m. ET.
