Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, Do Something They Haven't Done Since 1969

It was a rough and historic day for the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox on Wednesday...

The Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox are both mired in terrible seasons that they both soon assume forget.

The Red Sox are 75-78 and in last place in the American League East, having just fired their Chief Baseball Officer.

The White Sox are 58-95 and in fourth place in the American League Central, only avoiding last because of the woeful Kansas City Royals. They also fired their top front office executives this summer.

As bad as the season has been for both, the pair reached a historic low on Wednesday, doing something they hadn't done since 1969.

Per @OptaSTATS on social media:

Today is the 15,306th time the Red Sox & White Sox both played a regular season game on the same day.

Today marks only the second time that both teams allowed 13+ runs and 3+ HR on the same day, along with June 15, 1969.

The Red Sox lost to the Texas Rangers 15-5. Jonah Heim, Mitch Garver, Josh Jung and Evan Carter hit home runs in that one for Texas. Brayan Bello took the loss, surrendering eight earned runs in 3.0 innings.

The White Sox lost to the Washington Nationals 13-3. Lane Thomas, Dom Smith, and Joey Meneses hit home runs for Washington.

Both the Red Sox and White Sox are off on Thursday but the two will actually play each other for a series beginning on Friday night.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET as Touki Toussaint (CWS) pitches against Chris Sale (BOS).
