Zack Wheeler Carving Up Atlanta Braves Early, Making Baseball History in Game 2

Zack Wheeler of the Philadelphia Phillies has made baseball history through the first two innings of Game 2 of the NLDS.

It didn't take long for Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler to make baseball history on Monday night against the Atlanta Braves.

Pitching at Truist Park in Game 2 of the NLDS, Wheeler struck out the side in each of the first two innings.

Per @OptaSTATS on social media:

Zack Wheeler of the @Phillies is the first pitcher in MLB history to have 6 strikeouts and 0 hits allowed through the first 2 innings of a postseason game.

At the time of this posting, the Phillies lead the Braves 3-0 in the top of the third inning. The Phillies are looking to get one win closer to the National League Championship Series, where they also advanced a season ago.

JT Realmuto has provided the big blast thus far, hitting a two-run homer in the third inning off Max Fried.

The 33-year-old Wheeler went 13-6 this regular season, making 31 starts. He pitched to a 3.61 ERA and struck out 212 batters. In his ninth year in the big leagues with the Mets and Phillies, he is 87-63 in his career with a 3.45 ERA.

As of his posting, he's 2-3 in his postseason career with a 2.44 ERA, but there is still a long way to go in this one.

Game 3 of the series will be played on Wednesday night in Philadelphia. First pitch in that game will come at 5:07 p.m. ET. The Braves have not announced a starting pitcher yet but the Phillies will send veteran righty Aaron Nola to the mound.
