Arizona Diamondbacks left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. left Wednesday's game against the Colorado Rockies with a left hip contusion, the team announced on social media.

Gurriel was removed in the fifth inning of the contest with the Diamondbacks leading 2-1. The 29-year-old slugger was 0-for-2 on the day, flying out to right in the first and grounding into a double play in the fourth. Gurriel appeared to be in discomfort on his way down to first, and he got subbed out the following frame.

NL Rookie of the Year favorite Corbin Carroll – who had started 34 of Arizona's 35 games since July 4 – came in off the bench to replace Gurriel in the lineup. Carroll played the remainder of the game in right field, while Tommy Pham slid into Gurriel's spot in left.

Gurriel is now batting .258 with 19 home runs, 64 RBI and a .773 OPS on the season. The first-time All-Star entered Wednesday with a 2.2 WAR, batting .346 with a 1.008 OPS in his previous 15 appearances.

The Toronto Blue Jays traded Gurriel and catcher Gabriel Moreno to the Diamondbacks last December in exchange for outfielder Daulton Varsho. Across 468 games and five seasons with the Blue Jays, Gurriel totaled 68 home runs and 254 RBI while hitting .285 with a .797 OPS.

Gurriel is arbitration eligible this winter and is slated to become a free agent the following offseason.

The Diamondbacks went on to beat the Rockies 9-7 on Wednesday, putting them 2.0 games back of the third and final NL Wild Card spot with well over a month remaining in the regular season. Gurriel's status for the club's upcoming playoff push has yet to be determined.

Arizona has now won four of its last five games after opening August on an 0-9 skid. Colorado, on the other hand, still boasts the worst record in the NL at 46-75.
