Arizona Diamondbacks Holding Their Breath on Star Corbin Carroll's Shoulder Injury
The Arizona Diamondbacks are holding their breath on Thursday as star outfielder Corbin Carroll left the game early with a shoulder issue.
The following comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Carroll is being evaluated for right shoulder soreness.
ANALYSIS
That shoulder soreness is what prompted his early exit from Thursday's game against the Rays. Carroll looked uncomfortable during an at-bat in the bottom of the third inning and was replaced by Jake McCarthy leading into the top of the fifth. He can be considered day-to-day until the Diamondbacks provide further information about the issue.
Carroll is a major favorite to win the National League Rookie of the Year and could sneak into the MVP conversation, so this injury looms large for the Diamondbacks.
The 22-year-old is hitting .290 this year with a .366 on-base percentage. He's got 17 homers, 44 RBI and has stolen 24 bases. He's been the catalyst of a surprising Diamondbacks team that entered the day in first place in the National League West.
He was drafted in the first round of the 2019 draft out of the Washington high school ranks.
At the time of this posting, the Diamondbacks are losing to the Rays, 6-1. If Arizona loses, they'll fall to 48-34. They will remain in first place still regardless.
The D'Backs will be in action again on Friday night when they visit the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim.
First pitch is set for 9:38 p.m. ET as Tommy Henry (4-1, 4.31 ERA) pitches against Griffin Canning (6-2, 3.99 ERA).
