Arizona Diamondbacks Reportedly Get Good Injury News on Starting Catcher
Despite leaving the game early on Wednesday with a wrist issue, Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno appears to be healthy enough to play in the NLCS.
Per Sam Blum of 'The Athletic.'
DBacks catcher Gave Moreno said X-rays on his wrist were negative.
The Diamondbacks swept the Dodgers in the NLDS in three games and will earn a few extra days off as a result. That will undoubtedly be good for Moreno to recover.
It's the second straight clinching game that he had to leave with injury. He left Game 2 of the wild card series against the Milwaukee Brewers with a head injury but was cleared for return to the NLDS.
The 23-year-old is in his first year in Arizona after being traded from the Toronto Blue Jays last offseason. He accompanied Loudes Gurriel Jr. in the deal that sent Daulton Varsho to Toronto.
In 341 regular season at-bats this year, he hit .284 with seven homers, 50 RBI and six stolen bases. He posted an OPS of .747 but his offense figures to improve as his career goes on.
He made his major league debut in 2022 with Toronto.
The Diamondbacks don't know who they will play yet in the looming NLCS. It will either be the Philadelphia Phillies or the Atlanta Braves. The Phillies currently lead the Braves 2-1 in the other NLDS.
Arizona is seeking its second-ever World Series championship, having also won the title in 2001.
The NLCS is slated to begin on Monday night. It will start in either Philly or Atlanta.
