The Atlanta Braves used the off day on Monday to make a flurry of roster moves, multiple of which involved highly-regarded pitchers.

The team put the information out on Twitter:

The #Braves today claimed INF Lucas Williams off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett.

To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta transferred LHP Max Fried to the 60-day injured list.

The club today also optioned RHP Michael Soroka to the Stripers.

We'll start with Fried, who is on the injured list for the second time this season. He's dealing with a forearm issue and has been on the injured list since early May. Reports indicated he has not started throwing off a mound yet so he is still a long ways from returning.

When he's pitched this year, Fried has been excellent. The 29-year-old is 2-1 through five starts with a 2.08 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. He had only allowed one earned run in his first 20 innings but gave up five earned runs in six innings during his last start.

For his career, he's 56-26 with a 3.05 ERA. He helped the Braves win the World Series in 2021 when he won 14 games. He has double-digit win totals in each of the last three full seasons, and added a perfect 7-0 record during the shortened 2020 season.

2) As for Soroka, he's a great feel-good story. He missed most of the last three years with injuries and just made his major league return in May. Through two starts, he's 0-1 with an 8.38 ERA. Now, he gets a chance to head back to Triple-A to refine some things.

3) As for Williams, he's seen big league action in each of 2021-2023 with the Phillies, Giants, Marlins and Dodgers. He played four games for LA this season. He's got a lifetime .234 batting average in 141 games.

The Braves open up a series with the struggling Mets on Tuesday at 7:20 p.m. ET.
