The Atlanta Braves got more bad news on the pitching front on Thursday, as the team announced that reliever Colin McHugh is heading to the injured list. The team is calling it right shoulder inflammation.

In a corresponding move, lefty Jared Shuster has been recalled.

It continues a bad stretch of pitching injuries for the Braves, who are already out starting pitcher Max Fried, who was put on the injured list this week, and they are without starting pitcher Kyle Wright for a little while longer. He is expected back soon, at least.

The team also doesn't have a firm update on when closer Raisel Iglesias will come back and right-hander Ian Anderson was just put on the minor league injured list with an elbow issue.

The 35-year-old McHugh in an integral part of the Braves bullpen. He is entering his second season with the Braves after going 3-2 last year with a 2.60 ERA. He tossed 69.1 innings and struck out 75.

He's spent parts of 11 seasons in the majors with the Mets, Astros, Rockies, Rays and Braves. He sat out the 2020 COVID-shortened season and has a career 3.68 ERA in 308 games.

As for Shuster, the 24-year-old Massachusetts native made his major league debut earlier this season. He made a start, going 4.2 innings and surrendering four earned runs.

He was drafted in the first round of the 2020 draft out of Wake Forest. He had a 3.29 ERA and a 7-10 record last year across both the AA and AAA levels.

The Braves are currently 5-1 on the season and will open up a weekend series with the Padres tonight in Atlanta. First pitch is 7:20 p.m. ET as Spencer Strider opposes Blake Snell.
