Brandon Woodruff Continues Climb Back to Milwaukee Brewers Playoff Push
The Milwaukee Brewers lead the Cincinnati Reds by 1.5 games in the National League Central entering play on Friday, and they appear set to get even stronger down the stretch.
After acquiring slugger Carlos Santana from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, the team got a good injury report on rehabbing starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff as well.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Woodruff (shoulder) completed four innings, allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out three in a rehab outing with High-A Wisconsin on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Woodruff made his second rehab appearance and increased his workload to 52 pitches. He'll likely need one more start prior to being activated, keeping him in line to return in early August.
For a rotation that has seen injuries to Woodruff and Wade Miley this year and is kind of being pieced together, this would be big news heading down the stretch.
Woodruff will eventually pair with Corbin Burnes to give the 'Crew a formidable rotation heading into the playoff push.
He was 1-0 this season with a 0.79 ERA before getting injured.
The Mississippi State product is in his seventh year in the big leagues. He owns a lifetime 42-25 record with a 3.14 ERA.
Milwaukee enters play on Friday at 57-46 and will travel to Atlanta this weekend for a series with the Braves, who own the best record in baseball.
Adrian Houser gets the ball for Milwaukee against Yonny Chirinos. Houser is 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA while Chirinos is 4-4 with a 4.02.
