Chicago White Sox' Eloy Jimenez Shut Down with Nagging Leg Injury
The Chicago White Sox have won five of their last six games but will have to play the next few without starting outfielder Eloy Jimenez.
The slugging outfielder is going to be shut down for a few days following leg soreness after the White Sox played a doubleheader on Thursday.
Sox reporter James Fegan has more on Twitter:
Pedro Grifol said Eloy Jiménez will be down for 4-5 days but they’re looking to avoid the IL at this point. Described it as discomfort just below the left calf that came on over the course of the doubleheader.
That's a disappointment for the Sox on a few fronts:
1) The White Sox are in the playoff race and need all their best players available. Though they are just 28-36 overall, they are only 3.5 games back in the mediocre American League Central. Having Jimenez in the lineup goes a long towards making them as formidable as possible.
2) It's another setback for Jimenez, who has dealt with several injuries over the last few years. He was out for multiple weeks this year with an appendectomy, and only played 84 and 55 games in 2022 and 2021, respectively.
When he does play, he's a vital part of the Sox lineup. He's hitting .257 this year with six homers and 24 RBI in 136 at-bats.
Lifetime, he's a .274 hitter with 77 homers and 235 RBI.
The White Sox are playing host to the Miami Marlins on Friday night as Dylan Cease pitches against youngster Eury Perez.
