Chicago White Sox Expected to Activate Yoan Moncada on Friday
The Chicago White Sox are expected to activate third baseman Yoan Moncada on Friday when they host the Houston Astros.
Moncada has been on the injured list since early April with back issues that lingered longer than expected.
White Sox Insider James Fegan Tweeted:
"Sounds like Yoan Moncada will be back tomorrow. Pedro Grifol just said it's a possibility, but he's not playing in Charlotte tonight."
Moncada played well on his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte. He was 12-39 with two home runs and five RBI in nine games for the Knights.
The 27-year-old was out to a hot .308 start this season with two home runs. For his career, he's a .254 hitter. He was acquired from the Red Sox before the 2017 season in the deal that sent Chris Sale to Boston.
His health has been a frustration over the last few years. He played just 104 games a season ago.
The White Sox are the most disappointing team in baseball at this point, and they've dealt with a slew of injuries. At 13-26 and losers of two straight to the Royals, they've seen Moncada, Tim Anderson, Jake Burger, and Eloy Jimenez all miss time this year.
Catcher Yasmani Grandal also left the game on Thursday early with injury and we'll have to wait and see what the word is on him.
The White Sox and Astros will play at 8:10 p.m. ET on Friday and will conclude the series on Sunday at 2:10 p.m. ET.
