The Chicago White Sox received good news on closer Liam Hendriks on Tuesday as he battles back from an elbow injury.

The following comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Hendriks (elbow) is scheduled to play catch Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

ANALYSIS
It will be his first throwing of any kind since he was placed on the injured list June 11 with right elbow inflammation. Hendriks could perhaps be ready to return to the White Sox shortly after the All-Star break if he is able to avoid setbacks, but there is no official timetable yet. He's made only five appearances in the majors this year, mostly due to an offseason diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Hendriks's comeback from cancer is the feel-good story of the year in Major League Baseball so everyone is rooting for him to overcome this as well.

He is one of the top closers in the league, having wrapped up 116 career saves, nearly all of which have come since 2019. He led the league in 2021 in saves with 38 for the White Sox.

Hendriks is in his 13th career major league season and has spent time with the Twins, Royals, Blue Jays, Athletics and White Sox. He's a three-time All-Star (2019, 2021-2022).

In those five appearances this year, he is 2-0 with a 5.40 ERA. He's only worked five innings and has struck out three.

The Chicago White Sox will take on the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night at 9:40 p.m. ET in Anaheim.
