Chicago White Sox Lose Starting Pitcher to Injured List
The Chicago White Sox have placed starting pitcher Mile Clevinger on the injured list with wrist inflammation.
The move is retroactive to May 18.
Clevinger was supposed to start Monday's game against the Guardians but that won't happen now.
His absence puts another hole in a White Sox team that has dealt with injuries to Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada, Jake Burger and Eloy Jimenez already this season, not to mention the season-long absence of Liam Hendriks.
Clevinger is currently 3-3 for the White Sox with a 4.56 ERA. He's struck out 40 in 47.1 innings.
He's in his first year with the White Sox after spending part of three years with the Padres organization. He spent part of five years with the Guardians organization prior to that.
Lifetime, he's 54-33 with a 3.46 ERA. He was a fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Angels in the 2011 draft out of Seminole State College (Florida).
The White Sox entered play on Sunday at 18-29 and one of the biggest disappointments in baseball. Currently, they are trailing the Royals, 2-0, in the top of the fourth inning.
The White Sox and Guardians will open up the series on Monday at 6:10 p.m. The White Sox have not announced a replacement starter for that game and have not announced a corresponding move for Clevinger.
MLBTradeRumors speculates that Jesse Scholtens could be the next man up in the rotation. He is currently 2-2 with a 3.99 ERA at the minor league level. He's pitched in two career big league games.
