Chicago White Sox Star Luis Robert Jr. Won't Play in All-Star Game Due to Injury
One day after putting on a show in the Home Run Derby, Chicago White Sox star Luis Robert Jr. won't play in the All-Star Game due to injury.
Draftkings Network had the information on Twitter:
MLB LINEUP ALERT: White Sox OF Luis Robert Jr. (calf) will not play in tonight's All-Star Game.
There's been no word as of this posting if the injury is related to the Derby or not. Robert Jr. lost in the semifinals to Randy Arozarena, hitting 22 homers against his 35.
Robert Jr. did hit 28 homers in round one in defeating Adley Rutschman.
Not seeing Robert Jr. is a major disappointment for White Sox fans as he is the team's only representative in the game, but it is likely the smart play for the benefit of the White Sox as a whole.
He is having a great year amid a disappointing season for the White Sox overall. He's hitting .271 with 26 homers and 51 RBI. He's also stolen eight bases.
The fourth-year player out of Cuba is a lifetime .284 hitter with 62 homers and 181 RBI. One of the premiere talents in the league, he's ironically finally staying healthy this season, having played in 89 of 92 games this year. He played in just 68 in 2021 and 98 in 2022. The team likely wants to take no chances with him.
The White Sox are 38-54 and in fourth place in the American League Central. They are 8.0 games back of the first-place Cleveland Guardians.
Robert Jr. and the White Sox will be back in action on Friday, July 14 against the Atlanta Braves.
