The Chicago White Sox are facing an uphill climb even in the mediocre American League Central, and that climb will continue to be uphill after the team received poor health updates on both reliever Garrett Crochet and third baseman Yoan Moncada.

First, on Crochet, this update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Crochet received a cortisone shot Wednesday to treat the inflammation in his left shoulder, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

ANALYSIS
Early estimates put Crochet somewhere between 2-to-3 weeks out from returning to game action, making it likely he returns shortly after the All-Star break. The 24-year-old lefty has already missed over a month earlier this year while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

He's pitched in 10 games this year, going 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA. Figured to be a big part of the White Sox bullpen for the future, this is another setback for the hard throwing lefty. He burst onto the scene in 2021, pitching in 54 games and registering a 2.82 ERA. The White Sox got to the playoffs that year.

As for Moncada, he's battling lingering back issues.

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Wednesday that there is still no telling exactly how long Moncada (back) will remain on the injured list, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.

ANALYSIS
Moncada landed on the injured list Thursday due to a back issue that has bothered him all season. He's resumed throwing and fielding drills but has yet to step back into the batter's box, which could potentially spell an absence that lasts into July. A better picture should come as Moncada progresses through his rehab process.

This injury is another disappointing development for the 28-year-old, who was once the top prospect in baseball. He's hitting just .232 with a .279 on-base percentage this season. He's played in just 38 games after playing in just 104 a year ago.

The White Sox enter play on Wednesday at 32-43.
