Cincinnati Reds' Nick Lodolo To Be Sidelined Longer Than Expected with Injury
The Cincinnati Reds will be without young left-handed pitcher Nick Lodolo longer than originally thought.
He was put on the 60-day injured list on Saturday. The team put the information out on Twitter:
The #Reds today selected the contract of OF T.J. Hopkins from Triple-A Louisville, placed OF TJ Friedl (left hamstring strain) on the 10-day injured list retro to Wednesday and transferred LHP Nick Lodolo to the 60-day injured list.
The following comes from the RotoWire fantasy baseball portal:
Cincinnati transferred Lodolo (leg) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo remains in a protective walking boot more than two weeks after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his left tibia. This move to the 60-day IL means he'll be out until at least mid-July.
That's certainly a poor development for one of the centerpieces of the Reds rebuild. The team is counting on the development of young players like Lodolo, Brandon Williamson, Spencer Steer and Matt McLain this season.
The former first-round pick Lodolo is 25 years old. He's armed with an upper-90s fastball and a devastating slider. He's 2-1 this year with a 6.29 ERA in 34.1 innings. He has 47 strikeouts in those 34.1 innings. After debuting last year, he's 6-8 lifetime with a 4.31 ERA.
While the Lodolo injury news is disappointing, the Reds did get a positive update on first baseman Joey Votto, who starts a Triple-A rehab assignment on Saturday.
The Reds enter play on Saturday at 26-31 and in third place in the National League Central.
