With the offseason now in full force for the Cincinnati Reds, outfielder Jake Fraley has undergone surgery on his ailing toe.

Per reporter Mark Sheldon on social media:

Reds OF Jake Fraley had surgery on Oct. 11 to repair the fracture on his left fourth toe. He is expected to be fully healed before Spring Training.

The 28-year-old Fraley was a big part of the Reds team this year that made a postseason charge but ultimately fell short. He played in 111 games, missing time because of the injury, and hit .256 with 15 homers, 65 RBI and 21 stolen bases.

He just finished his second year in Cincy after having been acquired in 2022 in a trade from the Seattle Mariners.

Lifetime, across parts of five seasons, he's a .237 hitter with 36 homers and 130 RBI. While the overall numbers don't wow you, Fraley is a useful player who can hit for some power, can run, and can play very capable outfield defense.

The Reds are one of the most exciting young rosters in baseball so it's not known how he'll fit into the plans in 2024, but right now, the most important thing is that he's going to be healthy.

The Reds' boast Elly De La Cruz, Spencer Steer, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Matt McLain and Will Benson as just young position players.

They also have several youngsters who made their major league debuts on the mound like Andrew Abbott and Brandon Williamson.

Fraley is under contract through the 2026 season.
