Colorado Rockies' Kris Bryant Exits Game with Lower Back Tightness
Colorado Rockies centerpiece Kris Bryant left today's game against the Philadelphia Phillies with lower back tightness, per reports.
Bryant was playing designated hitter and was 0-1 at the plate with a strikeout.
It's the latest disappointment for Bryant since signing a seven-year, $182 million contract last year. He played just 42 games last season and ended up on the injured list three separate times.
There's no word yet on how severe the back injury is but with the Rockies mired in last place in the National League West at 6-15, missing Bryant for any time would be a huge blow.
He's off to a solid start this year, hitting .288 with three home runs and six RBI through his first 80 at-bats. He's also posted an OPS of .810.
The 31-year-old has accomplished quite a bit in his career already. He's made the all-star team in four separate years (2015-2016, 2019 and 2021). He's also won Rookie of the Year in 2015 with the Chicago Cubs, won the MVP with the Cubs in 2016 and has received MVP votes in two other seasons. He also helped the Cubs win the World Series in 2016.
As for the Rockies, this is another disappointment in a slew of them in the last few years. In fact, our own Brady Farkas recently discussed on 'The Payoff Pitch' podcast why he thinks the Rockies are the most irrelevant franchise in the sport. You can listen to that portion of the podcast by clicking this link.
At the time of this posting, the Rockies are trailing the Phillies 4-3 in the top of the ninth.
