Colorado Rockies Lose Former MVP to Finger Injury
The Colorado Rockies, owners of the worst record in the National League, got more bad news on Tuesday with regards to star outfielder Kris Bryant.
The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:
Colorado placed Bryant on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a fractured left index finger, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bryant was originally diagnosed with a contusion when he took a pitch off his hand Saturday in Miami, but further imaging conducted early this week revealed the fracture. It's unclear how long he might be sidelined. Elehuris Montero is joining the Rockies in a corresponding roster move ahead of Tuesday's game in Washington. Randal Grichuk will start in right field.
Bryant, who inked a seven-year deal in Colorado before the 2022 season, hasn't been able to stay healthy in Denver. He played just 42 games a season ago and has only mustered 65 this season.
He's hitting .251 this season with eight home runs and 23 RBI. He's also posted a .338 on-base percentage.
For his career, he's a .278 hitter with 180 home runs and 524 RBI. He's a four-time All-Star who has won the Rookie of the Year and the National League MVP awards. He also won the World Series in 2016 with the Chicago Cubs.
He's in his ninth major league season with the Cubs, Giants and Rockies.
The Rockies are 40-60 through the first 100 games of the season and will match up with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.
Washington has the second-worst record in the NL at 41-59.
