Colorado Rockies Provide Tommy John Updates on Pair of Key Pitchers
The Colorado Rockies are going to be without pitchers German Marquez and Antonio Senzatela for all or most of the year as both rehab from Tommy John surgery.
Per Patrick Lyons of theDNVR.com:
Germán Márquez and Antonio Senzatela are still on the road to recovery following Tommy John surgery. Rockies GM Bill Schmidt provided an update on their progress:
Márquez - post-All Star Break
Senzatela - maybe at end of Triple-A season
“I don’t anticipate (Senza) up here.”
Both players underwent Tommy John surgery in 2023 and are critical losses for a Rockies team that is already light on rotation talent. Colorado finished last in the National League West in 2023 and figures to be headed for the same spot in 2024, especially after the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks all added significant pieces in the offseason.
For Senzatela, this setback is just the latest in a string of them. He only threw 7.2 innings last year after a late start - he spent last offseason recovering from ACL surgery.
For his career, he's 39-43 in 145 career games. He's got a lifetime 4.87 ERA. He debuted in 2017 and has spent his entire career in Colorado. He's won double-digit games twice in his career (10 in 2017 and 11 in 2019).
The 28-year-old Marquez made the All-Star team for Colorado in 2021 and led all of baseball in innings pitched during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
Lifetime, he's 65-56 with a 4.41 ERA. He's had four separate double-digit win seasons.
