After more than a month on the injured list, the Detroit Tigers are activating ace pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez in time so he can start on Wednesday night against the Oakland Athletics.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

The Tigers reinstated Rodriguez (finger) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Athletics at Comerica Park, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

ANALYSIS
Reliever Garrett Hill was optioned to Triple-A Toledo to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Rodriguez, who will be making his first start for the big club since May 28 after missing the past five weeks due to a left index finger pulley rupture. Prior to being activated, Rodriguez made a rehab start last Thursday at Triple-A Toledo and tossed 58 pitches over 4.1 scoreless frames, so he could be in store for a light workload restriction Wednesday as he re-enters the big-league rotation
.

Rodriguez is in year two of a five-year deal that he signed with the Tigers prior to the 2022 season. He's currently 4-4 with a 2.13 ERA.

He's also struck out 67 batters and has a WHIP of less than 1 (0.975).

He spent the 2015-2021 years with the Boston Red Sox and helped the Red Sox win the 2018 World Series, going 13-5 that year.

He won 19 games in the 2019 season.

The Tigers have dealt with injuries to several starting pitchers this year including Rodriguez, Tarik Skubal, Alex Faedo, Matt Manning and Casey Mize, so getting Rodriguez back is a big boost to a team trying to hang around in the American League Central race. Manning and Skubal have both recently returned to the rotation as well.

The Tigers enter play on Wednesday at 37-47. First pitch from Comerica Park is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET.

Opposite Rodriguez is A's starter Austin Pruitt. He's 1-5 with a 3.25 ERA.
