The Detroit Tigers are currently 6.5 games back in the American League Central and reinforcements could be on the way this weekend as the Tigers continue to try to stay in the playoff race.

The team could get back both Riley Greene and Akil Baddoo from the injured list.

Baddoo is a definite. He's set to return Friday, while Green is more of a maybe at this point.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Greene (fibula) could be activated from the 10-day injured list this weekend, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

ANALYSIS
Greene will play one more rehab game with Triple-A Toledo on Thursday and while he will not be activated Friday, the hope is that he can return as soon as Saturday. The young outfielder has missed the last five weeks of action with a stress fracture in his left fibula. He's gone 5-for-9 at the dish in his first two rehab contests with Toledo.

Greene is one of the centerpieces of the Tigers rebuild and has enjoyed a breakout season this year, so getting him back would be a major boost to the offense. The 22-year-old and former No. 5 overall pick in the draft is hitting .296 with five home runs, 18 RBI and six stolen bases.

He made his major league debut in 2022 and is a lifetime .268 hitter with 10 home runs. He and Spencer Torkelson make up the future position player core of the organization.

As for Baddoo, he's a valuable contributor who gives the team bench depth with the ability to start.

The 24-year-old is hitting .231 this year with a .341 on-base percentage. He's got three homers, 16 RBI and six stolen bases.

The Tigers will play the Oakland Athletics on Thursday before a series this weekend with the Toronto Blue Jays.
